a note about the black book

A Black Book is another name for a grimoire, a book of magic that serves as a practitioner’s repository of spells, rites, and workings. This Black Book in particular is a curated collection of ritual components, rites, and spells inspired by my own tradition of magic.

My practice is shaped by folk magic, folklore, spirit work, and the structural elements of Traditional Witchcraft. My research comes primarily from textbooksβ€”particularly those on European history, anthropology, literature, and gender studies, where witchcraft often serves as a vehicle for broader discussions. I draw from museums, historical recordsβ€”especially those documenting the trials of women and other vulnerable members of society accused of witchcraftβ€”and the personal grimoires of magical practitioners who lived and worked between the 12th and 17th centuries.

Because my practice is rooted in personal gnosis and direct spiritual experience, I have removed elements that are uniquely mineβ€”such as the names and kennings of spirits that I work with, my private ritual structures, and tools that are less commonly used outside my own path. I have replaced these with more accessible alternatives so that others may find their own way into the work without needing to follow my footsteps.

This Black Book is not a rulebook, nor is it a guide to my personal practice. (As a matter of fact, so much of my personal gnosis has been removed from this document to make it useful to others that it bears only a passing resemblance to the practice that I live and work.) This Black Book is an offeringβ€”a resource for those who feel drawn to it, a set of workings that may inspire, guide, or be adapted to fit the path of those who find value in them.
