Find a place of power appropriate for your practice or establish a liminal space with the Crossroads Rite. If you are indoors, open the windows to allow the free movement of spirits through the space. Prepare the area with: the tool or tools to be blessed; a candle; a bowl of spring water (or blessed water of your choice; a small bowl of dirt from a place of power; an incense blend of juniper, mugwort, and rosemary (or another blend/incense suitable for purification and spirit work); and either a sterile needle or lancet for drawing blood or some other symbol of blood (red wine, grape or pomegranate juice, red ribbon or thread, etc.).

Light the candle and incense to symbolize the start of the ritual, saying:

By flame and shadow, by spirits unseen,
Here I stand, betwixt and between.

Hold the tool in both hands aloft and say:

I call to those who keep the crooked road,
To those whose voices are wind in the trees,
To those who know the old and hidden waysβ€”
Draw nigh, draw nigh, and witness my rite

As I bless this tool / these tools as aids and allies to my Craft.

Dip your fingers in the spring water and anoint the tool, saying:

By the river’s whisper and the well’s deep song,
Be cleansed of ill, be cleansed of wrong.

Rub a little earth into your palms, then hold the tool in both hands, saying:

By the dust of the earth and the bones of the land,
This tool is bound by my will, my hand.

Pass the tool through the rising smoke of your incense, saying:

By leaf and root, by smoke and air,
Be keen of sight, be strong of prayer.

If willing, prick your finger and anoint the tool with blood by letting a drop fall into the tool. If you prefer, use wine, juice or red thread/cord/ribbon as a substitute, saying:

With blood and bond, by seal and sign,
By witch’s will, this tool be mine.

Hold the tool to your lips and seal the consecration with a kiss, then whisper its purpose. For example:

Β·        If a knife, β€œTo cut and sever, to carve and create.”

Β·        If a staff, β€œTo guide and guard, to walk between worlds.”

Β·        If a cauldron, β€œTo brew and birth, to stir and summon.”

Β·        If a wand, β€œTo call and conjure, to weave and will.”

Β·        If a pentacle, β€œTo ward and bind, to seal and sanctify.”

Β·        If a scrying mirror, β€œTo see and seek, to open the unseen.”

Β·        If a statue, β€œTo house and hold, to honor and hail.”

Β·        If a stang, β€œTo stand and summon, to mark the way.”

Raise the tool into the air, saying:

Not by priest, nor book, nor bell,
But by spirit, craft, and spell.
By lock and key, by Hidden Door,
This tool is blessed forevermore.

Let the candle burn down safely, scatter the earth outdoors, and pour the water at a tree’s roots.
